lion-tailed macaque, sambar deer, the
elusive leopard, wild boar and guar, the
largest wild cattle, flourish in the
recesses of the jungles. Local and
migratory birds, reptiles, and many
plant species add variety and depth to
its forest wealth.
The journey to Thekkady takes you
through quaint little hill-towns and
softly contoured hill slopes surrounded
by plantations of tea, coffee and spices
like cardamom and pepper. The air, fresh
and rejuvenating, is fragrant with the
delicate aromas of this spice district.
